Classical Composition I: Fable Stage

Jim Selby's Classical Composition teaches the progymnasmata ("the before exercises") — the writing method behind classical education for over 1,500 years — across nine stages. In the Fable stage, students read and retell short, imaginative fables, learning to engage an audience's imagination and restructure the same idea using different words and sentence structures. Most students begin around fourth grade, once they can write a basic paragraph.
