Your child's classmates and friends

Choose whether classmates can see your child, approve friend requests, and turn it all off.

Children taking the same course can see each other and become friends — only with your say-so, at every step.

Let classmates see your child

Your child is hidden by default. To list them for a course:

  1. Open the course's page from your courses.

  2. Find your child among the learners.

  3. Turn on Let classmates see beside their name.

Classmates see their first name or nickname and avatar, nothing more. Your child can switch it off, but only you can switch it back on.

See who your child can see

Under your child's row on the course page, open Classmates your child can see. It's the same list your child gets, without the buttons to add friends.

Approve a friend request

Every request to or from your child waits in Waiting on you. It says who asked whom, in which course, and whether the other learner is an adult or another student.

  • An adult is someone taking the course on their own account, such as another parent.

  • Already approved by their grown-up shows when the other child's parent said yes first.

Choose Approve, Decline, or Decline and report.

Friend requests are approved on the website for now. The app tells you when some are waiting.

What friends see

For each course they share, a friend sees how many lessons are done and when your child last studied. Never scores, answers or the course's lessons themselves.

Turn it all off

On your kids page, turn off Classmates and friends for a child. They see no classmates, and nobody sees them.

Their friends are kept, waiting for you to turn it back on.

Unfriend or report

Your child's friends are listed on the kids page under their card.

  • Unfriend ends a friendship. Nobody is told.

  • Report sends a learner's name or picture to a Toka moderator.
