A course is built in layers: units group lessons, and each lesson holds chapters made of sections. You put the actual content into sections.
Once a course has lessons, the Jump to links under its title go straight to each part of the page. Back to top beside a heading brings you back.
Add a lesson
Open the course from your course list.
Click Add lesson.
Type a Heading (optional) and click Save.
The new lesson appears under Lessons. Click its name to open the lesson and start building it.
A lesson with lesson artwork shows a small picture beside its name in the list.
Group lessons into units
Units are optional, and they help a longer course read like a book with parts.
Add one with Add unit.
Move a lesson into a unit with the menu beside the lesson, or choose No unit to take it out.
Reorder lessons and units with their up and down arrows.
Deleting a unit keeps its lessons — they simply move to Other lessons. The Course contents box at the top lists everything for quick jumps.
At the bottom of each lesson, Previous lesson and Next lesson follow this same order. That's unit by unit, then the lessons in no unit. Students get the same links.
Build chapters and sections
Inside a lesson, chapters mark the big steps and sections break each step into bite-sized parts. Students work through one section at a time.
Click Add a chapter and give it a Chapter title.
Under the chapter, click Add a section and type a Section title.
Fill each section with content — see adding blocks.
A brand-new lesson needs no setup: add content straight away, and the first chapter and section are created for you.
Rename, reorder or delete
Rename any heading by clicking it — the Click to edit hint shows where.
Reorder chapters and sections with their arrows.
Delete with the bin icon. Deleting a chapter removes its sections and blocks too, and it can't be undone.
Set a minimum score
A lesson is finished when a student reaches its end. You can also ask for a minimum score on its knowledge checks.
Under Completing a lesson on the course page, choose Scoring at least a minimum on its knowledge checks.
Type a Minimum score (%) from 1 to 100, then click Save.
One lesson can differ: open it and use Completing this lesson. A lesson with no knowledge check never needs a score.
Students can still move on. No lesson is locked.
Below the minimum, a lesson reads "Needs" with it, and its end offers Retake.
A change applies at once to everyone.
Give your dialogue characters pictures
A language course's practice dialogues are spoken by the same few people, lesson after lesson. Set them up once for the whole course, under Characters on the course page:
Click Add character and type the character's name, the way your dialogues write it.
Add a picture, or leave it out — a character with no picture shows their first letter on a coloured tile instead. Lines show a small square cut from its middle, so keep the face centred. Your whole picture is kept, too.
Click Save characters.
Every line in Listen in then shows its speaker's picture, with their name and the line's play button under it. Clicking the picture opens it full size.
Names match without capitals or tone marks, so a line spoken by "Anqi" finds "Ānqí". Reorder characters with their arrows, or remove one with the bin icon — then save.
