Pictures set the scene for a course and its lessons. Pick a free photo or upload your own, and describe it for students who can't see it.
Choose a picture
Every picture block has the same picker:
Search free photos finds a free photo and credits it for you.
Upload your own image instead.
Describe the picture in Image description (alt text) for students who can't see it.
Hero image
Choose Add hero image for a large picture across the section.
On a computer it is cropped to a wide, short banner.
On a phone it is cropped close to square, so the sides of a wide picture are cut off.
Comic or diagram? Choose Show the whole image to show it uncropped on every screen.
Heading the whole lesson? Use lesson artwork instead. A hero block is for a picture further in.
Choose what phones show
A banner photo can lose its subject on a phone. Add a phone version to fix that:
Open the hero image and pick its main picture.
Under Phone version (optional), check how phones crop it.
If the subject is cut off, pick or upload the same picture, framed for a narrow screen.
Save.
Students on a phone then see the phone version. The description you wrote for the main picture is read for both.
Show the whole image has no phone version — it shows the same picture everywhere.
Text with an image
Choose Add text with image on left for a photo beside a short passage. Give it a Heading and Text, then pick a picture.
Course artwork
Course artwork is a wide banner across the top of the course page. Open the course and click Add course artwork.
Under Wide artwork, pick or upload a picture and fill in Image description (alt text).
Check the preview under Phone version (optional). Phones and course cards crop the artwork close to square.
If the subject is cut off, add the same picture framed for a narrow screen.
Save.
To change it later, click Edit artwork and use Replace image. To take it off the course, click Remove image under Wide artwork and save — the phone version goes with it.
Lesson artwork
Lesson artwork is a banner above the lesson's title, for you and for students. It also shows as a small picture beside the lesson:
in the course page's list of lessons
on each student's courses page
Students and parents can then scan a course at a glance.
Open the lesson and click Add lesson artwork.
Under Wide artwork, pick or upload a picture and fill in Image description (alt text).
Check the preview under Phone version (optional). Phones and lesson lists crop it close to square.
If the subject is cut off, add the same picture framed for a narrow screen, then save.
To change it, click Edit artwork. To take it off, click Remove image under Wide artwork and save. A lesson with no artwork simply shows no picture in the list.
