Invite someone outside your family to a course

Send a link that lets one person outside your family take your course for free, see who joined, and pause anyone you need to.

Once a moderator approves your course, you can send a link that lets one person outside your family take it for free.

Pick the right kind of link

Open the course and find Share outside your family. Click Create link and choose:

  • Single-use — works for one person, once, and expires after 14 days. Best for sending to one friend.

  • Reusable — anyone who has it can join, until you switch it off. Best for a group you trust, like a co-op class.

Each link admits only the person who opens it — never their whole family. Add a note like "For the Lins" so you remember who it was for; only you see it.

Copy and send a link

Click Copy link beside a link, then paste it into an email or a message. Toka doesn't send it for you.

  • Publish and get approved first — links can't be made before that.

  • Not working yet? A link says so while the course is a draft or waiting for a moderator. Copy it anyway: it works again once the course is open.

Switch off a link

Click Switch off on a reusable link, or Cancel on a single-use one, then confirm.

Nobody new can join with it. People who already joined keep their place. A course holds up to 50 working links at once.

Used and expired links

A single-use link that was used, or ran out its 14 days, moves under Used and expired. Open that list to see when each one was used or expired.

  • A used link still works for the person who used it, so they can find the course again.

  • Remove it with Remove when you no longer want it listed. The person who joined keeps their place.

What you see about people outside your family

They're listed under People outside your family with exactly this:

  • Their first name and avatar — never a surname.

  • When they started, and when they first finished the course.

  • When they left, or when you removed them.

You don't see their lesson count, their progress or their scores. The finished date is the day they first completed it, and it stays even if you add a lesson later.

Pause someone's access

Click Remove beside their name and confirm. They can't open the course, and their progress is kept.

  • Reusable links stay closed to them — or the link you're still sharing would undo the removal.

  • To bring them back, click Restore access, or send them a new single-use link.

Courses written by a teen

A teen can make links for their own approved course. Their parents see every link and can switch one off, and can remove anyone outside the family.

Only a parent can undo a parent's removal. The teen sees "A parent removed this person" instead of the restore button.
