Edit a task or chore

One editor for every task and chore, from the day page and the chore list, and what each change applies to.

One editor opens wherever you change a task: the pencil icon on the day page, or Edit on the chore list. A repeating chore looks the same from both.

What you can change

The fields come in this order:

  1. Title, details and subject.

  2. Whose list it's on. For a repeating chore, that's under Chore details instead.

  3. When: the day, how it repeats (Repeats) and its time. A chore that follows meals takes its times from your family's daily routine.

  4. Estimated minutes and Points. Empty points means no points, which isn't the same as 0.

  5. How you'll know it's done (what each means).

  6. The book or video it's linked to. A course lesson is chosen when the task is added and can't be changed here.

  7. Type: school work or a chore.

  8. Chore details, for a repeating chore.

The chore list edits the whole chore, so it has no day, link or type.

School work or a chore

Changing Type moves the task between the school and chore parts of the day.

  • Only one person can hold school work. Give a shared or split chore to one person first.

  • Saving it as school work removes its helpers, meals, seasons and other chore settings. Switch back before saving and they're kept.

  • A course lesson stays school work.

  • A grown-up's list holds chores only, so their tasks show no type choice.

Chore details

For a repeating chore you can change:

Chore details take a moment to load. Everything else can be changed while they do.

One day or all of them

When you save a repeating task, the planner asks whether the change is for This task or This and future tasks.

  • This day onward only: how it repeats, its type, and who does a chore.

  • This day only: moving it to another day. Move it on its own, then save your other changes.

  • Either: everything else.

To stop a task repeating, see stopping a repeat.

Unsaved changes

Cancel always throws your changes away. Clicking elsewhere, pressing Esc or closing the chore list's window closes the editor only when nothing has changed. Otherwise it stays open and says you have unsaved changes, beside the buttons.
